Can't wait to share the Gospel
A group of 13 staff and students went to Pantai Remis for a mission trip last November. One night after caroling at the Pasar malam, I was resting at a pavillion, and praising the Lord for the many who had the opportunity to hear the Gospel that night. Siao Wei, my team member, brought a little girl with her and sat beside me.
"She is Jia Yi, I brought her to Christ today," Siao Wei introduced her to me. "Oh, congratulations!" I said to the 9-year old girl. Then I asked: "Do you talk to Jesus?" "I do!" she replied firmly. "Then, where is Jesus now?" "In my heart!" again she replied firmly.
I taught her a song to thank Jesus: "Thank you thank you Jesus, Thank you thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus you are in my heart ...." We sang the song in Mandarin, English, Malay and Japanese. She learned and sang happily, and I know it was because she was affirming that Jesus was in her heart. Before she left on her bicycle, she smiled and said goodbye.
Two days after the mission trip, I was shocked to read in the news that Jia Yi had passed away in an express bus accident. She was on her way to Singapore, and her young life was ended. I found it very hard to believe that she was really gone. I was so sad, yet I was comforted by the knowledge that the Lord loves her more than I do. She had the chance to hear about Jesus and she believed that Jesus could save her five days before she passed away. She is now in the arms of the Heavenly Father, enjoying the fruit of her faith.
I have a thought deep in my heart- we are but nothing, and yet the Lord used us. I thought it would be just another mission trip for me-prepare for it, get busy and it's over …. But what we experienced was beyond our expectation and imagination. Jia Yi's death caused me to see the uncertainty of our life and the responsibility that God has entrusted to us; we should share the Gospel with urgency. As long as we are willing to obey, God will use us to do his amazing works.
